Flowering Trees of Venezuela

These are all native trees to the deciduous forests of the inland foothills of the coastal range and the secondary inland range that parallels the other.  they then spread south into the plains or llanos.  January through April are the most spectacular months for the flowering trees but there are others almost throughout the year.  Michael Ferrero saw a lot in December.  the tabebuias are all T chrysantha, the Lonchocarpus all L. sericeus except the closeup with my hand which is L. punctatus.  There are a couple of shots of Pereskia guamacho and one of Cassia grandis. Some shots were taken in Valencia proper but the most were on the expressway to Caracas( Lonchocarpus) and the Tabes were very near the coast (2 miles about) near Puerto Cabello along the expressway too.  This area had a heavy rain the week before so it was in bloom.  As the rains hit different areas, the following week the tabes will come into bloom.  As it rained in some parts of Valencia on Thursday, this next week they should be gorgeous here.  the mountains all along the coast on both sides are full of Tabebuias but they are never in bloom at the same time because of the rain.  Seldom do we get blanketed in rain as you do in the north.
